We receive many requests for information about Nature Meetings and walking in Madeira, here are some of the answers to your most frequently asked questions:
Is it difficult?
Our programmes are designed so that everyone can enjoy the walks on Madeira. As Madeira is an island of volcanic origin there are some locations with vertigo and tunnels. When we encounter tunnels Nature Meetings will supply torches, if we pass areas with vertigo, there is usually a secure fence next to the path. The walks are graded 1 for easy to 3 for challenging.
How do I get in contact with Nature Meetings?
Our multilingual staff is available to answer all of your enquiries. You can get in contact with us using any on the following contacts:
What do I see?
Madeira is famous for its nature. The location of the walk and time of the year influence what there is to see. There are beautiful views into valleys and gorges, across the interesting local farm terraces, along the unique levadas even through the ancient Laurisilva forest, all of this whilst being surrounded by the majestic blue of the Atlantic Ocean. Please refer to the daily programme for more details.
Which language will be spoken?
All our Mountain Guides are at least Bi-Lingual. Standard languages are English and Portuguese with other languages on request: German, Dutch, French or Spanish.
What time will I be back?
On half day walks we expect to be back at your hotel around about 12.30. For full day walks we will return around about 16.00,and for the Evening excursion we aim to be back by 23.30.
What do I have to take?
We recommend you bring: Layered clothing, rainwear, water, hat or cap, sun protection lotion, walking boots or shoes with a good grip, torch, camera and binoculars.
Can we visit additional locations?
With our daily scheduled we have to consider various individual clients on our walks, if there is enough time and all members of the group agree with a visit, then we can try to fit it in along the way. Group programmes all flexible, and we will design the programme to fit your needs, with your group leader.
Do you walk in bad weather?
Throughout the day, we monitor the weather conditions closely and check the weather forecasts.
When management consider the weather conditions to be uncertain, the mountain guide will decide if the walk goes ahead.
If weather conditions turn bad during the walk, or make the walk unsafe, it is the guide’s final decision to continue with the walk. Rain does not prevent us from walking!
Do I receive discount when I book more than 1 walk?
We offer discounts depending on the number of half day and full day walks you book with us. Please contact us for more details.
Can I take my children?
You can bring your children along on all our walks. Please check each individual walk for more details concerning the duration, vertigo and tunnels. Babycar seats and backpacks available at no extra charge.
